What is Skin/Scar Camouflage?

Scar and skin camouflage is an advanced paramedical tattoo technique performed using a microneedling device and/or tattoo pen. The treatment may involve smoothing and refining skin texture (when appropriate) and implanting custom-blended flesh-tone pigments into the skin to reduce visible colour differences. The goal is not to erase a scar, but to soften its appearance and help it blend more naturally with the surrounding skin.

Skin camouflage may be suitable for:

  • Stretch marks (white/silver only)

  • Surgical scars (C-section, tummy tuck, breast surgery, etc.)

  • Injury scars

  • Self-harm scars (fully healed)

  • Acne scars

  • Non-vascular birthmarks

  • Stable hypopigmentation (including vitiligo in remission)

Why Is a Consultation Required?

A consultation is mandatory prior to booking treatment. Every body heals differently, and every scar is unique in age, depth, texture, and pigment loss. Not all scars or stretch marks are candidates for camouflage.

During your 30-minute consultation, we will:

  • Assess candidacy

  • Review health history

  • Evaluate scar maturity and texture

  • Discuss realistic expectations

  • Review aftercare requirements

  • Answer any questions or concerns

Most scars require multiple sessions for optimal results. Heavily textured or fibrotic scars may require additional collagen-stimulating sessions before pigment is considered.

Conditions That Cannot Be Camouflaged

The following are not suitable for camouflage tattooing:

  • Keloid scars

  • Raised scars with dark borders

  • Port wine birthmarks

  • Spider veins

  • Freckles or moles

  • Unstable vitiligo (not in remission)

These conditions may respond better to medical treatments such as laser therapy, sclerotherapy, or chemical peels. Please consult with a physician to determine the most appropriate treatment.

Important Things to Know Before Booking

Scar camouflage is an improvement service — not a perfection service.

  • The treatment will not restore skin to its original, pre-injury condition.

  • The scar will not be “erased.”

  • The goal is to reduce contrast and improve blending so the area becomes less noticeable.

Colour Matching Expectations

A camouflage tattoo will not be an exact, permanent match to surrounding skin. Natural skin tone changes constantly due to:

  • Sun exposure

  • Body temperature

  • Circulation

  • Seasonal tanning

Tattoo pigment does not tan. If the surrounding skin darkens, the treated area may appear lighter. If pigment is matched to tanned skin, it may appear darker once the tan fades.

Clients who frequently tan should consider whether they prefer to match their “summer” or “winter” skin tone and understand that slight variation is normal.

Results Require Patience

Camouflage re-pigmentation is a process — not a one-session cure. Scar tissue is biologically different from healthy skin. It may:

  • Absorb pigment unevenly

  • Reject pigment in certain areas

  • Require gradual layering over multiple sessions

Immediately after treatment, the area may appear darker and red. Final healed results take several weeks to reveal true colour retention. Multiple sessions (typically 2–4) are often necessary for optimal blending.

Age Requirement

Clients under 18 must attend the consultation with a parent or legal guardian.

Consultation Fee Policy

The consultation fee will be deducted from the cost of your procedure if treatment is booked within 90 days of your consultation. Please note:

  • Consultation fees are non-refundable.

  • The credit has no cash value.

  • The credit is non-transferable to other clients or services.

  • If multiple procedures are booked, the full credit will be applied to the first scheduled treatment.
